Roughly 30mph winds but enough vertical lift to fly rocks and sticks! Even a little bonus flat top DS. I couldn't make what I think would be more ideal upward sloping circuits due to turbulence and combat wing performance... Fun stuff!
New World Record RC Airplane Speed 548mph
Переглядів 1 млн3 роки тому
Strong Santa Ana conditions on Jan 19 2021 provided enough wind for Spencer Lisenby to bring the dynamic soaring speed record back to its birthplace of Parker Mountain, CA. Wind gusted to 65mph and temps were 45-50F. This flight beat the previous record set in 2018 at Bird Spring Pass by only 3mph. Filmed with a Gopro on my head while flying. Best viewed on a large screen with high resolution. ...

FASTEST RC AIRPLANE IN THE WORLD! Transonic DP -- 545mph!!

Most folks don't realize that the fastest RC airplane is a glider with no jets or motors. Here Spencer Lisenby sets a new record speed of 545mph with the Transonic DP using a flying technique called Dynamic Soaring. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_soaring www.dskinetic.com/

A nice spot to DS in Santa Anas especially in the spring when the grass is tall and lush making the landing zone as good as it gets. I've flown my 85oz K2m here to 232mph. We've seen wind speeds in the mid-high 30s. Fun tight circuit good power when the direction is right (NNE-NE) and just an overall pretty spot considering its a landfill ;o). Park on Las Virgenes Rd in a small dirt lot just no...

      @sll914 3 місяці тому

      This plane uses the RG14 airfoil which doesnt improve much with snapflap so I was not using it in the video. The movement of the flaps that you can see is a combo of blowback and inertial forces as the plane crosses the shear layer at around 40G of acceleration. These days we have much better servos, supports, and linkages that prevent these movements.

    • @sll914

      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_soaring#:~:text=As%20drag%20is%20slowing%20the,wind%20gradient%20lessens%20with%20altitude. A windmill harvests energy by slowing the wind, thus robbing it of some of its kinetic energy. A dynamic soaring glider does the same by turning hard with its belly to the wind, slowing the air and taking some of its kinetic energy.

    Why not strap a fpv system to it which will be able to make for a longer straight run and I would guess for a faster speed, course it would be putting more weight on the plane.

      Extra weight isnt an issue but the additional drag of a camera and antennae would be. We actually dont want any straight runs. For max speed we need to stay at max L/D...

      @poione42 because a kite is anchored to ground by the string, it is already taking full advantage of the deltaV between wind and ground. Dynamic soaring is only needed by vehicles that are not able to be in two mediums with different velocities at the same time.
